The End is Nigh? Some Think So.

Just a few days ago, on February 12, 2009, the Center for Biological Diversity announced its new Climate Law Institute, dedicating $17 million to combat global warming.

Ironically, just a few days ago Intellectual Takeout completed work on a few new sections in the library on Climate Change, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Endangered Species Act. We do not have $17 million. We don't even have $1 million. Not even close. But we do have some good resources for you.

While the global warming folks claim to be fighting big money interests that threaten the environment, the truth is that they are the big money. They are not the little guy in this debate and they mean business

"The problem of global warming cuts across all environmental arenas," said Suckling. "It challenges the environmental movement to rethink traditional ways of doing business. Today we are fundamentally reorganizing the Center to integrate global warming into everything we do and to launch an unprecedented assault on the causes of climate change."

Please do read our new sections. They can help you understand the original intent of the laws, the inherent problems in the laws for a free society, the climate change vs. man-made global warming debate, and how that debate has been shaped in such a way that it confuses the facts and misleads the public. Environmental law and climate change are now intertwined by the litigious actions of environmental groups like the Climate Law Institute.

Consider their primary goals:

  • Establish legal precedents requiring existing environmental laws such as the Clean Air Act, Endangered Species Act, National Environmental Policy Act, Clean Water Act, and the California Environmental Quality Act to be fully implemented to regulate greenhouse gas emissions, land management, and wildlife management;
  • Establish new state and federal environmental laws and policies to rein in global warming;
  • Ensure all new laws and policies are judged against the scientific standard of whether they will lead to a reduction in atmospheric CO2 from 385 ppm to below 350 ppm;
  • Prevent the construction of new coal-fired power plants and coal mines while quickly phasing out existing coal-fired power plants;
  • Prevent the creation of an oil-shale or tar sands energy sector;
  • Reverse the deadly process of ocean acidification;
  • Prevent the loss of Arctic ice cover and likely runaway global warming that would ensue.

Friends, a free society and the goals of the Climate Law Institute cannot coexist. Despite the rhetoric that "climate change is a crisis we don't need and can't afford", you need to understand two important facts:  1) Climate has always been in a state of change - and always will be - and 2) Man cannot control the climate.

That is the truth of the matter.

There is a place for ecology, for things like clean water, clean air, and preserving species. Do not be fooled by environmentalism cloaking itself in the guise of ecology, though. The two are very different.

Educate yourself on the history of environmental law and the climate change debate. Take a look at the bios and job duties of those on the environmental side and you will become aware of the agenda and what their future moves are likely to be. Understand, too, that climate is always changing and man can best adapt to changes in the climate and the environment through free enterprise.  That is the way forward for our generation.
